Why is Yamuna spewing toxic white foam ? Who put Yamuna on ventilator ?

YAMUNA:-
A river which used to live gracefully through ages witnessing the building and collapsing of great empires has itself come on the verge of death. 1376 KM long Yamuna is spewing white foam exposing the rich flora and fauna of the Yamuna ecosystem to the verge of extinction.
The river originating from Yamunotri Glacier in Himalayas is covered with white toxic foam near Delhi causing the river to drop on water quality parameters in terms of DO and BOD.
DO stands for disolved oxygen which is required to maintain the aquatic life of the river ecosystem with the help of which Algae , fish, mammals continue to flourish in their natural habitat.
BOD on the other end stands for Biochemical Oxygen Demand which is required to decompose the organic matter present in the water. BOD level is increased with the increase of pollution in river because with increase in pollution level in river , organic matter is increased so high BOD is required to decompose the organic matter.
Reasons for white foam composition in Yamuna near Delhi:-

*impediments of industrialization
*Urbanization discharging surfactants, detergents and chemical substances.
*Untreated Agricultural effluents

What is the toxic white foam made of :-
When the industrial waste comes in contact with sewage water, their combination creates white toxic foam.
If we go by the chemical ingredients of toxic white foam, it contains Ammonia and Phosphates which can be behind growing numbers of skin and respiratory issues.
Foam contains harmful organic matter which releases volatile gases into the atmosphere leaving behind aquatic organisms with shortage of oxygen.Due to shortage of oxygen , hazards are created for the ecological system.
How Yamuna can be taken off the Ventilator:-
YAP(Yamuna Action Plan)-

YAP hasn’t  shown great results so far regarding reviving the Yamuna but proper implementation and monitoring  mechanism may help it to yields positive results.
Setting Sewage treatment plants

Two third of the water is untreated, taking action on this front may help.
Public awareness

It is the most important aspect regarding regaining the healthy status of Yamuna. Awareness regarding impact of pollution may stop humans from further spoiling her.
water quality monitoring and environment law enforcement
Proper monitoring aparatus and stringent law against those                 spoiling the river should be strictly followed. It will help in controlling further pollution of the river.
